Shelter heroes are part of a roster of American Red Cross volunteers in your community who are trained and prepared to help their neighbors when a major catastrophe strikes. Natural disasters like hurricanes and wildfires are occurring more frequently with greater intensity. Your community needs compassionate people like you to meet that growing challenge.
Expectations
Available at least once a year for 3 consecutive days to volunteer to help others in your community after a major disaster like a hurricane.*
Participate in training for roles to help people with emergency sheltering, meal delivery and other essentials before, during and after a disaster.
A personal drive to make your community stronger and safer for everyone in need.

The Red Cross provides in-person and virtual training for various disaster relief roles as a shelter volunteer.
